Sokoto State Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has signed into law the bills granting autonomy to the Judiciary and Legislative arms of government, insisting that no governor is against the autonomy of the two arms.

While signing the bills into law at the brief ceremony in the Government House Executive Chamber, Tambuwal said governors were willing and ready to build a democratic institution that would strengthen the country’s democracy.

The Governor, who also referred to the Executive Order 10 by President Muhammadu Buhari mandating them to ensure full autonomy to the two arms of government said: “What we are saying is that it was not constitutional to derail from the provisions of the Constitution and honour an Executive Order which does not correspond with our system at the expense of what is contained in our Constitution which spelt out how to go about it.”

Tambuwal, who accented the bills into law in the presence of the Speaker of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, Aminu Manya Achida and representative of the State Chief Judge, Justice Bello Duwale thanked them for their resilience and quick passage of the bills passed into law.

He said his administration remained committed to democratic ideals that would strengthen its institutions as drivers of democracy.

“The signing of the two bills into law was a demonstration of commitment to the principles of rule of law and separation of powers aimed at building an acceptable democracy with independence,” he said.
