The Northwest chapter of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) on Wednesday reminded the government to live up to its words and pay hazard and responsibility allowances to members of staff.
The reminder was made at the maiden Northwest Zonal Executive Council (ZEC) meeting, held at the Centre for Islamic Civilisation and Interfaith Dialogue (CICID) Bayero University, Kano.
Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) BUK, Prof. Haruna Musa, SSANU BUK Chairman Mustapha Aminu and Secretary Nura Garba, and Northwest Zonal executive officers of SSANU, as well as delegates from the Northwest zone, were present at the meeting.
National President of SSANU, Comrade Mohammed Haruna Ibrahim was turbaned with the title Jarman Arewa, meaning, by his calling, he is a warrior for members; in protecting their rights and privileges and ensure they are not injured by the powers that be.
National President of SSANU, Comrade Mohammed Haruna Ibrahim, while addressing union executives, urged the government to pay staff all their benefits as it was agreed when they met in February.
“We are still urging the government to respect our agreement with them, by paying us our hazard and responsibility allowances and other earned allowances.
“We signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the government in February where it was agreed that these issues would see the light of the day in April, and we are now in July.
“So, we wrote a reminder to the government that our members are still asking questions and that very soon, if we do not get anything positive from the government, we’ll call our members and decide on the next line of action,” the National President of SSANU said.
