Sir Babatunde Olusola Benson, a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), who died last month, has been laid to rest in his native Ikorodu town, in Lagos state. Benson, who holds the traditional title of Asiwaju of Ikorodu, died nine days before his 89th birthday. A burial service was held for the late Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) at the Patriarch Bolaji Methodist Cathedral, Ikorodu before his interment at a private ceremony witnessed by relatives only.
He was the former Vice Chairman of Commonwealth Lawyers Association, former President, African Bar Association, and Former President, Nigerian Bar Association. He held an honorary Doctor of Laws, LLD of the Lagos State University (LASU), where he was legal adviser for many years. He attended the prestigious C.M.S Grammar School, Lagos. President of Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mr. Olumide Akpata, who was at the burial service, described the late lawyer as an accomplished professional who gave his all for the legal profession.

President of the Old Grammarians Society (OGS) of the CMS Grammar School, Mr. Olu Vincent, described the late former President of the NBA as a worthy ambassador of the OGS. In a statement signed by the Publicity Secretary of OGS, Otunba ‘Dare Odufowokan, Vincent recalled that the late Old Grammarian will always be remembered for his frankness and constant truthfulness. According to the President, the late Benson was widely recommended for his principles and dedication to common good everywhere he found himself.
“I have listened to people talk about him, coupled with what I know about his life as a Grammarian; I can tell you he represented what Grammarians stood for very well. That we will miss him I’d a fact; but even as he goes home to rest, we are very proud of him because he lived a life worthy of emulation. He deserves to be celebrated,” he added.
