No fewer than 14 passengers died while two others sustained serious injuries in multiple accidents along Ilesha/Akure Road, Osun State.
The Nation reliably gathered the accident occurred around 5:40pm on Saturday at the Powerline area of the route with two vehicles involved.
It was learnt that a Toyota Sienna with registration number KRD 842 GY and HOWO SINOTRUCK with registration number BAU 171 ZE were involved in head-on collision after wrong overtaking.
An eyewitness Adefunke Saheed told The Nation: “Many of the passengers were killed. The accident caused heavy gridlock along the route.
“The officials of Road Safety later came to the scene to evacuate the remains of the passengers that were killed. I think they took them to a hospital in Ilesha.

“The men of road safety came to the scene to clear the traffic. It was raining when the accident occurred, it seems that contributed to the accident as the drivers could not see each other before making wrong overtaking.”
Spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Osun State Command, Agnes Ogungbemi confirmed the incident.
She said: “18 people were involved in the accident, 14 of them were killed and two sustained injury. The mutilated corpses were taken to WESLEY Hospital Morgue, Ilesa.”
