INEC upgrades 1,750 voting points

The Katsina State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Katsina State, Jibril Ibrahim Zarewa, has announced the conversion of 1,750 voting points in the state into polling units after statewide consultations.

Ibrahim-Zarewa, who was addressing a stakeholders’ meeting at INEC headquarters, Katsina, which also involves political parties and civil society organisations, said the conversion resulted in the creation of a total number of 4,902 polling units

He said: “Katsina with 4,902 polling units has an additional 1,750, making it a total of 6,652. It should also be noted that the 4,902 created in 1996 will remain in their known locations.

“With the exception of three polling centres in Danja, the one in Dutsi Local Government Area was moved to other polling units to appropriate locations.”
