Two soldiers, a corporal and a private, have been kidnapped by Boko Haram. The incident, according to security sources, happened around Jakana where the insurgents operate on a daily basis.
The two soldiers, according to the source, were travelling in a commercial vehicle after obtaining clearance to do so.
Another security source said the driver of the vehicle conveying the two soldiers has been arrested by soldiers of 29 Task Force after other passengers in the vehicle suspected foul play from him as he was very playful with the abductors.
“Yes, I can confirm that two of our guys were kidnapped by Boko Haram on Saturday evening, one corporal and a private soldier. They were travelling on pass when the incident happened before Jakana after Mainok on Maiduguri road,” the source said.
Also, over 60 travellers have been abducted by bandits along the Sokoto-Gusau highway. An official of the Sokoto Mass Transit confirmed that one of their buses was attacked by the bandits.
The official who spoke anonymously said the bandits wielding sophisticated weapons, blocked the highway on Sunday morning.
A bus driver and one other passenger escaped the attack but the rest of the passengers were taken away into the bush by the bandits.
Local residents also said the bandits blocked Wurno-Goronyo Road the same day, killing two people and abducting others.

Another Kaduna traditional ruler has also been abducted.
Dr. Jonathan Danladi Gyet Maude, paramount ruler of Jaba in Jaba council area of the state was seized and taken away by gunmen about 2am yesterday.
The 83-year-old monarch was with his guards on his farm in Nasarawa State when the gunmen took him away.
Police spokesman in Kaduna Muhammed Jalige said the command was in touch with their counterparts in Nasarawa State on the matter.
The Emir of Kajuru was abducted, later released, about two weeks ago.
Yobe State liaison officer for Maiduguri, Borno State Ali Shehu Mai Lalle has also been abducted by Boko Haram.
Mai Lalle, a protocol officer with Yobe State, has been in charge of the Maiduguri Liaison office for more than five years. Lalle and another person were abducted on Saturday between Benishiek and Mainok, a notorious black spot, about 75km to Maiduguri. In Makurdi, the Benue State capital, two women were on Sunday taken away by gunmen.
It was gathered that the assailants trailed the women’s car before abducting them.
The abduction has been reported to police who have launched an investigation.
Also, the daughter of an Amotekun official in Ondo State has been abducted.
The lady, Abibat Saani, was taken away at Ofosu, Ore in Odigbo council area while hawking groundnuts.
