Nasarawa deputy governor’s ‘candidate’ loses primary election

The All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship aspirant for Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State Mrs Victoria Apawa Bako who had the support of the state Deputy Governor, Dr Emmanuel Akabe has lost the party’s ticket.

The Deputy Governor hails from the same local government area as Mrs Bako.

Recall that the Nasarawa State chapter of the APC held its chairmanship primaries on Monday to pick candidates ahead of the October 6 council elections in the state.

Ahmad Usman Sarki polled 183 votes to defeat Mrs Bako who got 78 votes. The election took place after Dr Akabe fails to get all the candidates to step down for the only woman in the chairmanship race.

In Lafia Local Government Area, the immediate past chairman of the council Alhaji Amino Maifata polled 298 votes to defeat his closest opponent Mohammed Arabo who garnered 64 votes.

The APC chairmanship primaries in Toto Local Government Area produce the Special Adviser to the Governor on Conflict Resolution, Abdullahi Aliyu-Tashas after defeating his rival Dr Zakari Shaibu Lokogoma who got 41 votes.

Alhaji Auwalu Adamu also polled 290 votes to clinch the APC chairmanship position in Kokona Local Government Area against his opponent Shuabu Salihu who got only 10 votes.

The APC chairmanship primaries produced consensus candidates in Wamba, Karu, Obi and Nasarawa local government areas. In Akwanga Local Government Area where the governor hails from, there was no primary election as well as no consensus out of the six aspirants that bought the nomination form.
