No fewer than six persons died in a crash involving 18 passengers on Thursday along Darazo – Dukku highway in Bauchi State.

Eight other passengers were said to have sustained varying degrees of injuries while the remaining four escaped unhurt.

The Nation gathered that the crash involved a commercial vehicle, a Volkswagen Bus with registration number: KTG-950ZZ driven by one Ahmad Umar and a Peugeot Saloon with registration number: AKK-53CB.

Sector Commander FRSC Bauchi State, Corp Commander Yusuf Abdullahi, who confirmed the crash to newsmen in Bauchi, the capital said that it was caused by over-speeding.

According to him, the six people were confirmed dead by a doctor when they were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

He said items recovered from the scene of the crash include nine mobile phones and N20, 590 cash.

“Immediately we got a distress call, our men from there rushed to the scene of the crash within some few minutes for rescue operation.

“When they got there, they evacuated the victims to the Darazo General Hospital for medical attention.

“It was at the hospital that six people, five male adults and one female adult were confirmed dead by a medical doctor.

“Eight other passengers, made up of five male adults and three female adults, sustained varying degrees of injuries. The Police Motor Transport Division in Darazo was also informed,” he said.
