THE Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, yesterday announced the dissolution of house committees.

There are 36 committees in the Assembly.

The announcement, which came as a surprise, was made shortly before the adjournment of the plenary at the hallowed chamber of the House of Assembly.

The Speaker, who said the dissolution is with immediate effect, did not give any reason for it.

It is the first time the House announces dissolution of all committees.

However, the Speaker in July 2020 reshuffled some of the committees’ chairmen, while some others were retained.

The reshuffling of the 27 house committee leadership was preceded in May 2020 with the removal of the then chairman, House Committee on Works and Transport, Olamide Akinajo. An immediate replacement was announced.

Speculation of rift and discord is heavy among the lawmakers, as many lawmakers are said to be angry with the leadership style of Ogundoyin.

But, the Speaker said the latest decision is to allow for freshness of ideas and give the members new challenges and opportunities in wherever new committees they find themselves.

He, however, did not give a hint as to how soon the new committees would be formed, as the Assembly members are preparing for their long recess.

He allayed fears that the about 10 bills before the House committees would be taken up by a new committee, who would finish it up as fast as possible before the long recess of the House.
