Work on Lafia waste recycling plant at advance stage – Commissioner

NASARAWA State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Mr Musa Ibrahim, says work at the Lafia waste recycling plant has reached more than 50 per cent completion.

The Commissioner stated this yesterday in Lafia while addressing newsmen after July sanitation exercise in the state.

He noted that current structures are being built and label remover, soft platform screw loading, friction washer, dewater machines among others are being installed at the site of the waste recycling plant.

“When the plant is completed, waste will become scarce commodity because it will be turned into wealth.

“There are off-takers already willing and ready to buy the finished products from the recycling plant,” the Commissioner added.

He used the opportunity to commend the Federal Government through the Ecological Office for citing waste recycling plant at Angwan Rere community of Lafia.

Speaking on the recent flooding in Keffi Local Government Area and other places in the state, the Commissioner blamed the incident on building on waterways.

He said the ministry had relocated and sanctioned a block industry along the bridge that was recently over flooded in Keffi LGA of the state, for building on the waterway.

The denied the reports in some section of the media that lives were lost during the recent flood in Keffi, but admitted that property were lost.

The Commissioner also said that the state government was committed to ending open defecation in the state in line with the Federal Government’s policy

Meanwhile, Mr Abubakar Mohammed, Chief Prosecutor who is also a Chief Environment Officer, told newsmen that 18 people were arrested while transacting their private businesses during the sanitation exercise.
