Former President, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Brigadier General Dominic Oneya (retd.), is dead.
Born on May 26, 1948, Oneya, who hailed from Agbarho Kingdom in Ughelli, reportedly died yesterday in his home at Effurun GRA in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
Current NFF president Amaju Pinnick confirmed Oneya’s death. “Yes, he is dead,” Pinnick told newsmen.
Oneya presided over NFF from 1999 to 2002 and he served in various capacities in CAF committees and recently headed the Ministerial Committee on Reforms in Nigerian Football
Oneya was from 1996 to 1998 military administrator of Kano State and he was also the military administrator of Benue State during the reign of Abdulsalami Abubakar between 1998 and 1999.
Former General Secretary of the NFF, Dr. Bolaji Ojo-Oba told NationSport sat night that the deceased was indeed a man of peace who served the game very well.
“ He was a peaceful person and he didn’t carried the word on his head unlike some other people and may his soul rest in peace,” Ojo-Oba said.
