It was another tragic lost to the Imo State Police Command on Thursday as an inspector attached to Orsu Police station was killed in a heavy bombardment during a gun duel with bandits.
The bandits who stormed the police station on Thursday at about 9.35pm in their numbers threw explosives and petrol bombs on the roofs of the police station causing fire outbreak which damaged vehicles parked in the station.
In a release yesterday, the command’s spokesman, CSP Michael Abattam, said three of the bandits were also killed in the cross fire.
He said: “The command’s tactical teams on ground engaged the bandits in a gun duel. And due to the superior fire power of the police the bandits were subdued.
“Three of the bandits were neutralized and their guns, one pump action gun and two locally made double barrel pistols were recovered while others escaped into the bush with bullet wounds.
Unfortunately, a police inspector lost his life in the attack,” he added.
Meanwhile, he has appealed to people of Imo State especially the Orsu community to assist the police with credible information that will lead to the arrest of the bandits and to report to the nearest police station any person seen with or treating bullet wounds.
He also advised hospitals to ensure that they report any person who come to them for treatment of bullet wounds.
