Swiss, driver abducted in Ogun

Police in Ogun said yesterday that detectives were on the trail of gunmen who abducted a Swiss national Andred Beita and his driver on Ibese-Itori Road.

It was gathered that the gunmen ambushed a detachment of policemen attached to the chairman of Olabel Farms, Ola Bello, and opened fire upon sighting them.

The police team led by one Inspector Hassan Kumode returned fire.

In the shootout, the Swiss, who is attached to the farm, and his driver identified as Ifeanyi, were abducted by the gunmen.

Two officials of the company were injured while two suspects were gunned down, The Nation gathered.

Also, one AK47 rifle was recovered, police spokesperson Abimbola Oyeyemi said.

“The victims went to their farm around Ibese and on their way coming, the gunmen attacked them. But the policemen with them killed two of the kidnappers and recovered one big AK47 loaded with nine rounds of ammunition from the kidnappers.

“Two of the people were injured and were taken to hospitals . One died while receiving treatment.

“The hoodlums went away with a Swiss national and one other person. We are still on their trail, making efforts to ensure that those people are rescued unhurt”.
