The Itire-Ikate Local Council Development Area, Lagos has flagged off a two-week vocational training programme.

The programme, according to the council Chairman, Dr Ahmed Apatira, was designed to make the youths self-sustained.

It is coordinated by the department for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation in the council in collaboration with the Speed-Up Lagos Initiative.

He said the 300 participants will be trained by experts and professionals in vocational skills like catering and food production, event planning and decorations, cosmetology, among others.

“The idea is to make the beneficiaries start their own businesses in order to combat unemployment. The programme is also aimed at creating a society of youths that are useful to the economy and speed up the development of micro, small and medium scale enterprises,” he said.

While addressing the participants, Apatira admonished them to be of good behaviour, adhere to the COVID-19 protocols and give maximum concentration in order to get the best of the opportunity.

Participants after the training, he said, will receive certificates.
