Panic over killing of vigilante leader in Delta

Fears have enveloped the peaceful community of Jeddo, Okpe local government area of Delta State following alleged killing of a vigilante chairman and the burning down of a mosque.

The late vigilante chairman who was identified as Mr. George Akiru (aka) Scosco was alleged to have been killed by suspected gunmen, which had led to the chasing of Muslim worshippers, Hausa indigenes and the burning down of the mosque during a protest.

The community youths were said to have accused the Hausa indigenes and Muslims worshipers of being the masterminds of the killing of the vigilante chairman.

A youth in the community, Ubada Umukoro, who spoke to newsmen said, “We will avenge the death of the late vigilante chairman who was killed in cold blood.”

At the time of filing this report, security operatives were seen all over the community making attempts to prevent breakdown of law and order in the community.

The Delta State acting Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident, adding that investigation to unmask the killers of the vigilante chairman is ongoing.
