‘Insecurity affects tourism’

The Emir of Borgu in Niger State, Alhaji Mohammed Haliru Dantoro has lamented the worsening security situation in the country, saying that it’s a setback as it has prevented tourists from patronising National Wildlife Parks in the country.

The Emir disclosed this at the National Park Service Stakeholders’ workshop on the review of the National Park Service Regulations in Abuja.

He noted that Nigerians hope that the country returns to the good old days.

He said insecurity has greatly affected tourism, even as he appealed that the workshop should take a deep look into the situation, make it a point to discuss and see what can be done.

The Emir also added that the National Park needed to be funded properly. With enough funding, the issue of insecurity can be tackled.

The Conservator-General, National Park Service, Ibrahim Goni said there is a need for the review of the service’s regulation for efficiency and better service delivery. Regulations are set of rules that are very crucial to the operations of any given organisation. They remain veritable tools in enhancing efficacy and achieving the set goals and objectives of government institutions.

National Park Service is one of government’s agencies empowered by Section 51 of its enabling Act to make regulations, in a bid for the Park Service to continue to deliver on its core mandate of protecting, preserving and conserving the country’s wildlife resources as well as strengthening its operations in the face of the growing security threats within our National Parks. This stakeholders’ engagement has become very pertinent to address some of these problems and advance the course of the Service.
