Five drowned women buried in Delta

Five of the seven women, who drowned after a vehicle they were travelling in plunged into a canal on Orogun Road, Ughelli North Local Government of Delta State, have been buried.

They were buried after a mass funeral service was held at the NPA Playground, Bomadi Federated Community, in Bomadi Local Government, the home town of six of the deceased.

Those buried were identified as Akabulouseigha Fresh, née Donbraye (46); Mrs. Mariana Donbraye (53); Priscilla Mieyebo (56); Eyawerekumor Teibogiren (53) and Mrs. Aleibiri-Ere Fresh (47).

The Nation reported that seven of the nine women and a driver on board a Toyota Sienna died in the accident last Saturday while returning from a ceremony at Agbor in Ika South Local Government.

One of the other two deceased persons, Blessing Akpabowei (28), is slated for burial today at Peretoru community.

Information about the burial arrangement for the last victim, Donbraye Aladin (61), was not available at press time.

While the driver reportedly ‘fled’ the scene, the other two survivors are receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

Reports claim that the driver lost control of the vehicle as a result of a deflated tyre.

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Olisa Ifeajika, condoled with the bereaved families and prayed that “such tragedy will never occur again.”
