THE Tinubu Support Organisation (TSO), through the Women Entrepreneurs Forum (WEF), is set to assist no fewer than 300 women in Kano state.

Director General of Tinubu Support Organisation, Hon. Aminu Suleiman, stated this during a town-hall meeting organised by the Women Entrepreneurs Forum.

The meeting, held at Plot 15C, Gidan Ladi Haladu, along Zaria Road, drew WEF members from 22 local government councils of the state, including Kano Municipal.

Suleiman said TSO is interested in supporting women because the All Progressives Congress (APC) Leader, Ahmed Bola Tinubu, has women at heart.

He explained that it was Tinubu’s concern for women that he picked a woman as his deputy when he was governor of Lagos state.

According to Suleiman the women would be given money to develop their individual trades.

At the meeting, the participants/beneficiaries asked questions on how they would access the grants and how best they would be uplifted to run their businesses.

Women Activist and President of Women Entrepreneurs Forum, Haj. Halima Zubairu Muhammed Dambatta, who compiled the names and addresses of women, said she would sit with them and find out the areas they need to be helped.

Dambatta said she had received many complaints from women concerning their socioeconomic predicaments, so she discussed it with the Tinubu Support Organisation to come to the women’s aide which its DG (Suleiman) obliged.

“About 55 percent of the population in the state is made up of women and these women are unproductive because the economy has taken five steps back.

“We (women) want to be empowered. I wouldn’t say the government has neglected us, but the government has not given us much consideration, as you can see.

“If you empower a woman, you have empowered a nation, because we are nation builders. I had a conversation with the Tinubu Support Organisation on what they intend to do in Kano and how Tinubu has been helping the nation by empowering citizens.

“And I told the leader of the Tinubu group to come and listen to some of my women, they would want to ask them questions. We have members in Abuja, Lagos, Enugu, Kano, and many other states.

“So, he agreed to come. You can see members from Kano and Kaduna are here. So, the meeting is about women empowerment -to be empowered economically and politically. We want more women in ministries as we want them occupying political positions, etc.

“Now, what we want the Tinubu group to do is to empower us in skills acquisition and service skills (capacity building) so we can be self reliant and even become employers of labour in different trades such as tailoring, hair dressing, beads making, etc,” she said.

Suleiman said: “If women want to do anything they do better. I am happy to be here so that we can empower them. I am aware there are widows among them, we shall provide something to keep them busy so that they can take care of themselves and cater for their children.

“We are starting with Kano because it is the heart and largest state in the north. From Kano, we are going to Katsina or Kaduna.

“There are women from 22 local government areas, out of the 44 councils in Kano here, another meeting will bring together another set of women. Our target in Kano is to empower at least 300 women.”
