‘Restore study of history in schools’

The Emir of Lafia, His Majesty Sidi Bage Mohammed has called for the full restoration of the study of History in schools.

The monarch noted that there can never be human development in Nigeria unless the study of History is fully restored in the country.

The Emir said Nigeria needed history to build a prosperous future in the country.

The traditional ruler spoke at the weekend in Abuja during his investiture alongside other distinguished Nigerians as Associate Fellows of the Historical Society of Nigeria.

He said: “Without History, there can never be human development. You need to share the experience of the past so you can build the future.

“We need History. I am very happy because this is the best society I love to belong to.”

The traditional ruler pledged his readiness to assist the society in achieving its mandate.

Chairman, Board of Fellows of the Historical Society of Nigeria, Prof. Enoch Oyedele, blamed the poor level of development in the country on the neglect of History.

“History is development and development in history, if we are not developing in Nigeria, it is because we have neglected History. Certainly, we are not developing,” he said.
