The Women’s Helping Hand Initiative (TWHHI) has donated over 100 delivery packs to expectant mothers who are survivors of gender-based violence (GBV) in Lagos.
Its Programmes Coordinator, Omowunmi Omotayo, said the Initiative, established in March 2006, was aimed at providing empowerment for women, girls and the youths.
It involves mentoring for the youths and adults; giving physical aids to communities; and rehabilitation services for victims of abuse, violence and trafficking.

The “Mama Pack” donation, Omowunmi noted, is an offshoot of the NGO’s rehabilitation services for GBV survivors
She said: “We run a shelter and when some of these women come in, they only come with a cloth in their bags, so the financial strain is real coupled with the trauma they are experiencing.
“We realised that we need to get this ‘Mama Pack’ for them as support, to reduce the maternal depression and to encourage them to visit hospitals; this will reduce the maternal mortality chances and the child survival is also high. By giving them these, we uphold the dignity of these women”.
