Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti has fittingly described his scoring talisman Victor Osimhen as incredible after the Nigeria International’s solitary winner against Torino on Sunday.
Victory restored Napoli to the top of Serie A with 24 points after eight matches and the strike was Osimhen’s fifth of the campaign.
Spalletti said Torino was a tough nut to crack for his ambitious side, even as he saluted the courage of his wards.
“We have a compact group of players and friends,” he said after the energy-sapping game that saw Osimhen scoring the winner in the 81st minute. “We always have to take steps forward, but this evening I was particularly impressed by the sacrifices that the players made, the level of commitment and the way everyone took responsibility.
“As for [Victor] Osimhen, he’s an incredible footballer who’s becoming more and more complete. He works hard for the team and he always knows how to drive his team-mates forward from the front ”
Colombian goalkeeper David Ospina was also full of praises for the energetic Nigerian :“[Victor] Osimhen is showing just what he can do, not just in terms of goals, but also the hard work that he puts in for the team.”
Yet Osimhen has described the crucial header when he rose above everyone in the penalty area to head Napoli to victory over Torino and back to the top of the table, as ‘the most important goal of my career’.
He noted: “We never gave up, we attacked until the end and deserved the win.
“I saw the ball fly up and I thought I could get there before the defenders. I connected well and scored such an important goal for me and the team.”
