Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu yesterday kicked off the 7th African Conference on Health and Biosecurity.
It will hold at the Civic Centre, Ozumba Mbadiwe, Victoria Island, Lagos and end tomorrow.
The conference is organised by Global Emerging Pathogens Treatment Consortium (GET Africa), in conjunction with the Lagos State Ministry of Health.
Prof. Christian Happi, a Professor of Molecular Biology and Genomics, Redeemers’ University, Ede, Osun State, is the lead speaker at the conference with the theme: “Universal Approach to Addressing Biosecurity Threats – Genomic Intelligence and Vaccines.”
Lagos State Commissioner for Health Prof. Akin Abayomi, who is also a speaker, stressed the need for governments to imbibe the concept of “one health”, championed by World Health Organisation (WHO).
Appreciating the sponsors and participants for their support, the Chief Operating Officer of GET Africa, Dr. Ayodotun Bobadoye, noted that besides Prof. Happi and Prof. Abayomi, there were other experts from across the globe who would speak.

The EKOEXCEL (Excellence in Child Education and Learning) programme of the Lagos State Government has shone at the 2021 education symposium organised by the Mobiles for Education (mEducation) Alliance.
Representing Lagos State at the interactive session moderated by the United Nations Children’s Fund’s (UNICEF’s) Juan Giraldo was the permanent board member of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB) and oversight chair of the EKOEXCEL programme, Adebayo Adefuye.
Highlighting EKOEXCEL’s strides, he said that 300 EKOEXCEL schools were the baseline, adding that the results in the first eight weeks were impressive.
Adefuye, who described Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu as a visionary leader, who wanted equal opportunities for less privileged children with EKOEXCEL, said the programme was being monitored.
He said: “We have a crisis response unit that is under the LASUBEB Chairman, Wahab Alawiye King. They respond to issues promptly, even in the furthest parts of the state.”
