The umbrella body of Ijaw youths, the Ijaw Youths Council (IYC) Worldwide, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene in the alleged injustice meted out to the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic (Oil and Gas), Ekeowe, Bayelsa State, Dr. Iwekumo Wanton, by the Federal Ministry of Education.
The IYC, in a statement yesterday by its National Spokesman, Ebilade Ekerefe, said because of alleged vested interests of some ranking officials of the Education ministry, an arrowhead in the ministry had overruled the emergence of Wanton, who was appointed in a free, fair and transparent process.
He implored President Buhari to caution the Minister of State (Education), Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, over his alleged meddlesome posture towards the emergence of Wanton, an Ijaw man.
Ekerefe advised the President to direct the immediate confirmation of Wanton as the substantive rector of the institution.
The spokesman, who said the non-confirmation of a validly appointed rector was a joke taken too far, warned that the youth body would resist any plan to experiment with the destiny of the Ijaw.
