About 10 passengers were yesterday abducted on Damaturu/Maiduguri Highway by members of Boko Haram and Islamic State, West Africa Province (ISWAP).
The assailants clad in military uniform mounted a fake checkpoint into which the commuters rode and were seized and taken into the bushes, it was said.
A driver on the road told The Nation that the terrorists were in full control of the road at the checkpoint near a village called Tamsu Kawu in Kaga council of Borno State.
He said he almost ran into the fake checkpoint with his passengers but for providence.
“I was almost running into the ambush. I noticed that people were moving as if something was wrong and my instincts told me to stop. We waited for some time and all the people we saw didn’t come along. We saw empty cars as we passed the area,” the driver said.

A security source said about 10 passengers may have been abducted.
The abduction caused panic on the road.
In Kwara, gunmen suspected to be herdsmen yesterday attacked Nuku village in Kaiama council, abducting two minors, both girls, of the same family and inflicting machete wounds on their father’s head.
It was gathered that the abducted girls were later released after the abductors raped them, spokesperson of the state Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) Babawale Afolabi said.
“Our checks revealed that the assailants were actually looking for money but after ransacking the whole place and finding nothing, they turned to the man and his daughters,” Afolabi said.
