Collapsed building: Lagos grants families access to identify corpses

The Lagos State Government has said that concerned families can go to IDH Morgue to identify victims of the collapsed building on 21, Gerrard Road, Ikoyi, Lagos on Monday.

Briefing journalists at the site, Commissioner for Information Gbenga Omotosho said the need to perfect some formalities informed the delay in proper identification of the deceased.

While Omotosho said that 31 families had registered on the missing person list, 38 have been confirmed dead.

The Commissioner, who condemned fake news over the incident, assured that the State will do everything possible to handle the evacuation professionally.

Responding to a distraught father whose son was said to a victim, Omotosho, who expressed concerns over the incident, directed him to General hospital Lagos Island, to check if the son is among the survivors.

He said the survivors are responding well to treatment.

Omotosho also debunked insinuations that rescue operation had stopped, saying the rescue workers needed some rest at that time and had since resumed their work.
