Twenty five-year-old Omorinmade Anikulapo-Kuti has registered himself as a hybrid of a new dawn in the Kuti musical dynasty.
Made’s mastery of the two favourite instruments of his father, Femi Kuti, and grandfather, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, has positioned him as a hybrid whose reign will signify a new era in the world of Afrobeat and jazz.
Describing the handsome multi-instrumentalist as a perfectionist won’t be far-fetched as he plays a total of six instruments ranging from the saxophone, to the trumpet, guitar, bass, piano, and two others.
From his hit single, ‘Free your mind’ to other songs on his debut album, For(e)word, Made made a statement which indicates he thoroughly understands music, sound and is ready to consolidate on the achievements of his grandfather, father, and uncle as an innate propagator of the Afrobeat genre.
Made’s abilities to smoothly harmonise horns, strings, chords, and drums to form unique rhythms
in songs like ‘We are strong,’ ‘Hymn,”Your Enemy,’ ‘Blood,’ ‘Different Streets,’ ‘Higher,’ and ‘You’ll Find,’ is a clear indication of his readiness to take the music world by storm.
Having performed in his father’s positive force band actively for two years straight and touring with him, Made has decided to ignite his career with The Movement band.
After leaving a memorable musical experience in the minds of music lovers at the debut of Made Kuti & The Movement at Terra Kulture in July 2021, the song machine returned for a second concert with The Movement band at the Oriental Hotel.
On Friday, October 29, 2021, the Made rendered a mind-blowing experience at his second concert with his band, The Movement. Made held guests spellbound and left in an awe state with an outstanding performance. He not only owned the stage but gave a sterling performance in two hours such that his father, Femi Kuti, admitted he has come of age and is ready to take over the world. “His performance was electrifying and on point, I couldn’t be more proud.”
His mother, Funke, who noted that the night was an amazing one, agreed with Femi Kuti on Made’s sounds, breath control, style, and dexterity saying, “You killed the show. So proud of you my darling.”
The concert, which was anchored by Omo Baba, also had his protege, Kojah Kaze giving humour support to the delight of guests that included Afrobeat legend, Femi Kuti, Funke Kuti, Yeni Kuti, Funlola Aofiyebi-Raimi, Edi Lawani, Sulaiman Aladeh, and Azuka Ogujuigba amongst others.
The show, which was packaged by FK Management with support from Trophy Stout, Lagos Inland Revenue Service, and Soundicty, also had guest appearances from Made Kuti’s regular collaborators, The Bandhitz and Cavemen.
Made’s heart-warming performances began after his regular collaborators, The Bandhitz and Cavemen had thrilled the guests making the night filled with a blend of Afrobeat & highlife.
Meanwhile, Made scooped his first award nomination at the All Africa Music Awards. He was nominated in the Best artiste, duo, or group in the African jazz category.
The singer’s rave single, Free Your Mind, from his debut album For(e)word won him the nomination, which he says makes him feel honoured.
