  • Police to acquire new fighting equipment

Force Police Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, said yesterday in a statement that the police were procuring new crime-fighting equipment to further check the loss of officers and men.

Mba said:  “The Inspector-General of Police is concerned about the life and well-being of every police officer. Because the IGP stands *in loco parentis* to all police officers in Nigeria, he is deeply touched whenever and wherever a police officer loses his life- whether on-duty or off-duty.

“Consequently, the Police leadership is working round-the-clock to reduce to the barest minimum,  incidents of police fatality.

“New crime-fighting tools and equipment such as Armoured Personnel Carriers, bulletproof vests, bulletproof helmets, and other modern crime-fighting gadgets are being acquired to improve police efficiency and to harden police personnel and facilities, thereby reducing police vulnerability to incidents of attack.

“We are also conducting regular tactical training to improve the competence of our men and their capacity to police emerging violent crimes.

“We are also strengthening our intelligence capacity to be able to conduct proactive and intelligence-led raids on violent criminals to forestall their attack on innocent citizens and security operatives.”
