Ishaku inaugurates taskforce on counter-human trafficking

Taraba State Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku has described human trafficking as the deadliest human evil, even as he called for comprehensive and consistent action to stop the menace.

Governor Ishaku made the call yesterday in Government House Jalingo when he inaugurated the state’s Task Force Committee on Counter- Trafficking of Persons.

He said as a result of human trafficking, the future of thousands of young people have been ruined, noting that it is also inhuman for those in the position of authority to help check the crime to remain aloof.

Governor Ishaku said the task force was set up to enhance a comprehensive and coordinated action against the new form of the slave trade. He urged the members of the task force to commit themselves to the assignment as if it’s their primary paid job.

He also urged members to help activate and coordinate inter-agency actions against human trafficking.

He said: “Let’s do much more to bring this evil trade to the barest. We must do better to protect victims and prosecute those involved in this evil of human trafficking.”

He also spoke on the fate of the 82 trafficked children rescued by his administration and who are currently being housed and catered for by the administration.

He assured that the children will not lack anything they require to live normal lives even after the tenure of his administration.
