Minister inaugurates counter-terrorism centre in Makurdi

The Minister of Defence, Gen. Salihi Magashi, has inaugurated the Counter-Improvised Explosive Device and Explosives Ordnance Disposal Centre in Makurdi. He said the move will further boost the counter-terrorism fight in the Northeast.

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Centre located within the Nigeria Army School of Military Engineering (NASME), Combatant Wing, in Makurdi, Benue State capital, is built by the Defence headquarters, with support from the German Training Advisory Group (GTAG) that offered training for men and officers of the Nigerian Army.

Gen. Magashi, represented by Major-General K. O. Kadiri, stated that the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Centre is a big leap towards the fight against insurgency in the Northeast.

He commended the German Training Advisory Group for providing technical support and logistics for the Nigerian Army in explosive devices, saying the centre is coming at the right when the fight against insurgency is intensified.

Representative of German Training Advisory Group Col. Gliemaan, who conducted the Minister and his entourage on a guided tour gave a brief on the remodelled magnificent building which houses the centre, said military personnel have been trained in the act of detecting explosive.

Commandant, Nigeria Army School of Military Engineering NASME, Brigadier-General Mark Mamman, Head of Unit and other top military officers witnessed the inauguration of the centre.
