Ahead of tomorrow’s Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Nigeria, Coach Peter Butler said Liberia will be playing for pride and point against the Super Eagles.
The coach, who lamented the inability of the team to play in front of the home fans in the last two years blamed the misfortune of the team in the World Cup qualifiers for this, pointing out the challenges befuddling his side.
He said: “I am really impressed with the positive response from the players and I think the most important thing for the team is the good spirit. We had played every game away from home and this has really affected the fortune of the team in the qualifiers. But we are not going to be making excuses for this.”
“Against Nigeria team, we are going to be playing for pride and point. We have a lot of respect for the Nigeria team with talented players coupled with the motivation they have had compared to us. We are going to approach the game with a good attitude and with the presence of new players who are bringing good characters to the team, I believe this will rub off on the team generally,” Butler said.
Speaking in a similar vein, captain Allen Njie believes they will be aiming for victory. “The inclusion of new guys is good for the team and we came here for victory and we are going to work for the victory for the country against Nigeria,” Njie said.
