DSS bursts Kano syndicate that trails people to banks to rob them

The Department of State Services (DSS), Kano State Command, yesterday announced that it has arrested three men said to belong to a syndicate that specialises in trailing people to banks to rob them after withdrawing money.

The Director, DSS, in the State, Mr Alhassan Muhammad, told  newsmen in Kano  that the syndicate had been terrorising the people of the state over  the last three years.

He named the arrested suspects as  Abubakar Umar, 30; Abubakar Suleiman, 38; and Ya’u Abubakar, 35.

The suspects were apprehended after they snatched a motorcycle and robbed the owner of N300,000, which the victim had just withdrawn from the bank.

Muhammad said the three were arrested “around Jaen Quarters in Kano metropolitan area, at a house after breaking the motorcycle and stealing the money.”

He said investigation revealed that “these suspects have been operating in Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Maiduguri and other states.”

Muhammad said that the service had already stationed its officers to ensure that they arrest the remaining members of the syndicate.

He added that the service would hand them over to the police for prosecution after completing the investigation.
