NOLLYWOOD actresses, Yvonne Jegede and Didi Ekanem have weighed in on some of the negative effects of social media.

Both actresses in separate posts discussed how social media has made people believe in showing off while stating that success is now measured by social media posts.

Jegede in her post lamented the rate at which followers measure a person’s success by their post that the social media has given a chance for undeserved popularity.

“The internet has given popularity to opinions that shouldn’t be formed, to behaviors that shouldn’t be emulated; to people that shouldn’t be famous,” she began.

Continuing, she said, “The other day I posted something about a car and a new camera phone and I got a comment that got me thinking. Common sense is not common nowadays. If you don’t post on social media they assume your life is messed up! And that you don’t have anything. Your wealth /success is measured by what you post on social media these days. We’ve in a messed up society.”

Also, in a similar opinion, curvy actress, Didi Ekanem disclosed why she kept her Range Rover out of public knowledge citing negative comments as her reason. She noted that she was only trying to avoid people’s opinions about her achievement.

“I’m sure y’all didn’t know I own a Range Rover right… Well, that’s because I chose not to post it to avoid “she’s showing off” or na man buy am for her. Big girls don’t show off you know”, said Ekanem.
