Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has yet again noted that no quarter would be asked and none would be given today when the Super eagles face off against the Blue Sharks of Cape Verde in a make a mar Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifier at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos.
The Super Eagles lead Group C on 12 points as against the visitors who amassed 10 points after five rounds of matches. Yet today’s game is delicately poised as the home side need just a draw to advance to the third round while the visitors need a win to progress.
Incidentally, Cape Verde are the most in-form team in Group C after three successive wins against Liberia (beaten twice) and Central African Republic which will bolster their confidence against Nigeria.
But speaking at the pre-match conference in Lagos yesterday, Musa said today’s tie is a must win for Nigeria.
“Everyone want to be in the tournament (World Cup) so we have to go all out against them throughout the 90 minutes,” the 29-year-old Musa explained. “We must have a potential goal in the first half and then finish the game in the second half and qualify for the next round.”
Speaking further, the former Leicester City’ striker said the Super Eagles are not oblivious of the task even as he admitted the huge pressure of playing in front of the home fans.
“Whenever you are at home, you are always under pressure, so we are under pressure to deliver, “ he admitted. “But the pressure is not going to affect us because we know the quality in our team; we won’t allow the pressure to affect us.
“ It is football and we just have to concentrate for the duration of the game.
“No matter how we score the goal, all we need is the three points and that’s what we achieved against Liberia, we Nigerians know a lot but the key thing is the victory.
“We have been talking about getting early goals, we need to suffer inside the game and then rejoice after the game unlike the last game against CAR where we lost at home,” he noted
