The leadership of the National Association of Polytechnic Students has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure that the most qualified candidate is appointed Rector of Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi, Edo State.
Its National President Sunday Asuku urged the Federal Government to stick to the Polytechnic Act in appointing the next Rector.
Asuku urged the government to appoint the next Rector based on merit and qualification, adding that “it’s a disaster to politicise academic inclined appointment such as Rector of a Polytechnic.”

He said the continued struggle for an end to discrimination will suffer great set back if less qualified person is appointed with peculiar role in the ongoing struggle.
The students’ body expressed satisfaction on the conduct of the process of appointment of Rector in Polytechnics so far by the selection committee and the Governing Council of the Polytechnics.
