NYSC charges workers on fight against corruption

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has charged its staff to conform to ethical standards to strengthen the fight against corruption.

Its Director-General, Bridg. Gen Shuaibu Ibrahim made the call at the induction and training of members of the NYSC Anti-corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) Sub-Units for Area Offices as well as State and FCT Secretariat by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.

The director – general, who was represented by Director Human Resource Management, Hajiya Habiba Bappa in the NYSC, said the inauguration was a follow-up to the anti-corruption and transparency unit of the NYSC inaugurated in September 2021.

He said the move was to deepen the scheme’s strides towards entrenching work ethics of integrity, transparency, accountability and efficiency.

The director – general said: “We rely on you for the promotion of diligence at work, fairness and sincerity, in line with the standard set by the commission.

“You must always be conscious of the fact that our major responsibility as an organisation is to groom Nigerian graduate youths to be patriotic, disciplined and responsible as well as to promote national unity and development.

“For this singular reason, I expect that the attitude of staff to work and general conduct should conform to ethical standards in all ramifications reflecting honesty, loyalty, integrity and commitment.”

The NYSC boss said the headquarter had earlier inaugurated the ACTU unit and he emphasised the need to replicate the unit in the area offices and state secretariats where it has most staff and corps members.

He therefore, enjoined the ACTU Sub-units to be above board in complementing the efforts of the main unit at the headquarters.
