After his unimpressive display in front of goal in Nigeria’s 2-0 win over Guinea Bissau, striker Sadiq Umar has pleaded with Nigerians to be patient with him and he hopes to deliver the goals in his first international tournament for the senior national team.
Umar who netted the first goal after several misses against Guinea Bissau believes the entire team need support to triumph in Cameroon.
“I want to plead with the fans to keep supporting us and be patient with us and I hope we will keep giving the results,” he said. “I’m calm always because whenever I’m playing, I see I have one chance, more will come. I just have to keep being me and believing in myself. Whenever you see yourself playing for the national team even if it is one minute, you have to appreciate it.”
Describing the Guinea Bissau tie as tasking: “It was not an easy game because every game in this tournament is hard and we came out to give everything. For me, it is a special moment for me and my family and I want to thank them for the support and I hope they keep supporting this Super Eagles,” Umar added.
He specifically lauded the coach for the support given to all the players.
“The coach is trying to help every one of us and most especially me as this is my first call-up to the Super Eagles and we just trying to put ourselves more into the group by being humble and loyal. As a player, I want to learn more and so it is a special feeling for me being with these lads.”
