Four officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were killed and one critically injured by Improvised Explosives Device( IEDs) planted by terrorists in Galadima Kogo district of Shiroro local government area of Niger State.
The security officers were on their way to some communities attacked by terrorists when their Hilux vans climbed the explosives planted on the path causing an explosion.
Niger Commissioner of local government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Internal Security, Emmanuel Umar confirmed the development to newsmen on Monday.
According to him, bomb was planted to deny security access into the community, assuring the government was responding and monitoring the situation.
“There was an attack on the Galadima Kogo community and we believe that these are Boko Haram elements.
“Four security officers were killed while one is severely injured. Government is responding. We have cordoned the place, we are responding and monitoring the situation,” he stressed.
He stated the government believes that the attack was instigated by informants following a mop-up operation by security task force in the strongholds of the terrorists in the last 48 hours.
A statement by Niger Governor Abubakar Sani-Bello declared that the State will not give in to the terrorists.
“As Government, we are determined not to hands up to these dare-devil terrorists. Niger State is actively supporting the federal government-led efforts to overcome the menace of these heartless terrorists.
“These people have come under several attacks for no fault of theirs, their lifestyle has been forced to change. I feel and share in their pains. I will not rest until their lifestyle return to normal,” he assured.
The Governor condoled with security agencies over the loss of their personnel stressing that their sacrifices will not go in vain.
He pledged continued support to the security agencies to win the war against the terrorists while praying for the repose of the souls of the deceased and quick recovery of those injured.
