Scores injured as hoodlums go on rampage in Kwara

Youths suspected to be hoodlums have gone on a rampage in Ilorin, Kwara state capital.

The bloody street brawl said to be between suspected hoodlums of Adeta and Isale-Jagun area of the metropolis started on Sunday night and continued Tuesday morning, it was gathered.

The rampaging hoodlums allegedly freely used guns, broken bottles and machetes.

During the bloody confrontation, limps were broken and vehicles smashed.

Indeed scores of others who sustained varying degrees of injuries are currently recuperating in an undisclosed hospital in the metropolis.

Kwara Police Command confirmed the incident, hinting that it had already arrested three persons.

It added that the fourth person is recuperating at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH).

The Command spokesperson Ajayi Okasanmi said: “This morning we received disturbing information of the unruly behavior of some youths of Adeta, Isale-Jagun and Kuntu areas of Adewole.

“On the receipt of the information quickly dispatched a detachment of policemen to the area to restore peace and arrest the perpetrators of the near breakdown of law and order in the area.

“Investigation on the matter is ongoing to unravel the remote and immediate cause(s) of the crisis that led to damage to some vehicles parked on the affected streets by the unruly youth.

“However, some suspects have been arrested and no report of any casualty. The command has ordered the state CID to take over the case for a discreet investigation.

“The command urges parents/guardians to warn their children to eschew violence and make use of laid down channels to air their grievances if any, rather than taking the laws into their hands. He further warns that anybody arrested in connection with this crisis and any other one for that matter would be made to face the full wrath of the law.”
