Anti-Cult activist maimed in brutal Sango attack

In a shocking act of retaliation, suspected cultists brutally attacked Mr. Oluwadamilare Adeoye, a well-known community activist and teacher, yesterday evening in a violent assault.

The incident, which occurred around 6:30 p.m. near the Sango area, was halted by the swift intervention of passersby, who chased the assailants away before they could inflict further harm.

Mr. Oladipupo Fatai, a commercial motorcyclist (Okada rider) who witnessed the attack, stated he saw a group of men accost Mr. Adeoye. “They surrounded him and started beating him with objects. I heard a loud cry of pain and saw one of them using a plier-like tool on his foot. It was very bloody. We raised an alarm and they ran away, leaving him on the ground in a pool of blood,” Fatai recounted. The victim was said to have been rushed to the hospital afterwards.

A source close to the victim, who requested anonymity, linked the assault directly to Mr. Adeoye’s anti-cultism advocacy. “He has been a thorn in the flesh of these cult groups for years, organizing youth programs and even helping police with arrests. They have threatened him before, but this was their most vicious message yet,” the source said.

When contacted for comment, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Ogun State, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed that an investigation into the incident had been launched. “We are aware of the grievous assault on Mr. Adeoye and are pursuing all leads to bring the perpetrators to justice. Such acts of violence will not be tolerated,” the PPRO stated.

The attack has sent ripples of fear through the local activist community, raising concerns about the brazenness of cult groups in the region.
