A first-class traditional ruler in Ekiti State, the Atah of Ayede Ekiti, Oba Abdulmumin Orisagbemi, has narrowly escaped being abducted by some gunmen.
An eyewitness said the incident happened around 9pm on Sunday between Isan-Ekiti and Ayede Ekiti in Oye council of the state when the monarch was returning from a meeting.
The witness said the gunmen attempted to kidnap the monarch but met some resistance and shot him several times.
The monarch was receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital, it was learnt.
Police spokesman Sunday Abutu confirmed the incident, saying Oba Orisagbemi was coming from Ijero Ekiti when he was attacked.
Abutu said detectives were tracking the attackers.
