IWD: Organisation to fete women

Charitable Network for Community Empowerment (CHANCE), a non-governmental organisation (NGO), will fete about 100 female traders and street sweepers as part of activities to mark the International Women’s Day (IWD).

Founder and Programme Director Olajumoke Saliu, at a news conference, said 100 female traders and sweepers would be gifted food packs to celebrate their strength and drive for economic independence, and support their families at Bariga Market, Akoka,

She added: “There would also be a youth outreach, in collaboration with the Faculty of Arts Students’ Association (FASA) to empower youths with skills to help them aspire to be more, make the up-skill move and live intentionally to create a gender equal world, free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination.

The outreach will hold at the Afe Babalola Auditorium, University of Lagos (UNILAG),

“Topics to be discussed include ‘Breast and Cervical Cancer: All there is to know’; ‘Savings, Investment and Budgeting: Prerequisites to Financial Independence’; ‘Gender Equality: The Experiential Perspectives’ (a panel discussion)  and a keynote address in line with the International Women’s Day theme of the year ‘Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow’”

CHANCE is aimed at finding effective strategies to create social impact for women and youths towards attaining sustainable development.
