No fewer than six persons were killed and 16 injured yesterday at Auchi, headquarters of Etsako West council of Edo State.
The Nation learnt that the incident happened when a truck conveying cement lost control and ploughed through many shops in the community.
A witness, Sani Aliu, told The Nation on the phone that the truck was descending a hill when its brake failed and ran into the shops, destroying goods worth millions of naira.
Aliu said the injured persons were rushed to hospitals in the polytechnic town and its environs, while bodies of the deceased had been deposited in an undisclosed morgue.
Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Henry Benamaisia could not be reached at press time, but a top official of the Corps confirmed the incident.
The FRSC in Ogun said three persons died on Tuesday night in a crash in Gofamint area of Ogunmakin on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
One person was injured.
Mr Ahmed Umar, the Sector Commander, confirmed the accident.
