A non-governmental organization (NGO), Standard Life Care Foundation in collaboration with Standard Life Care Hospital held free medical check-up for people in Ijaiye, Ojokoro community in Lagos.
The free check-up was aimed at making people know the importance of blood pressure monitoring for both young and old.
Managing Director, Standard Life Care Hospital, Dr Oluwatosin Korede spoke on the complications that comes with blood pressure if not properly managed, adding that the program will help people know how the body work.
Korede said that blood pressure affects and causes damages to organs such as the liver, kidney and the brain because of the reduction of blood supply.
In the world today, Diabetic, he said, is a major killer of the heart and people don’t know how to manage.
He urged diabetic patients to be placed on anti-diabetic mediation to help control blood sugar.
He advised people to take lots of water, exercise frequently and eat healthy such as going on a low sodium diet or low salt diet and take lots of vegetable and fruits.
He added that knowledge of the type of diabetics one has will help in its treatment, starting from controlling the amount of protein and carbohydrate intake.
A nurse, Joseph Georgina, said hypertension kills silently and so therefore is a enough reason for constant check of blood pressure and blood sugar.
