2023: El-Rufai, Masari direct ambitious appointees to resign

Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has directed political appointees and other public servants aspiring for political offices in 2023 to resign on or before March 31.

The directive was contained in a circular issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Balarabe Lawal Abbas.

The circular, addressed to the heads of tertiary institutions, SSAs, SAs, and other top government officials, reminded them of the new Electoral Act signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari and recently released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

It reminded them that the Act provides that such officers should resign 30 days before the party’s primary elections for the specific positions they are aspiring for.

Also, Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari has urged political appointees wishing to contest elective offices in 2023 to comply with the provisions of the Electoral Act.

The governor announced this on Tuesday in Katsina while addressing reporters after a closed-door meeting with political appointees, including Deputy Governor Mannir Yakubu.

He said: “I briefed them on certain developments in our party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and our preparations for the local government elections.

“I urge those with ambitions to contest elections in 2023 to take a look at the Electoral Act, which was recently signed into law by President Muhammad Buhari.

“The meeting was necessary so that they can do the needful by respecting the Electoral Act aimed at avoiding the avoidable.

“They should comply with the Electoral Act.”
