Youths stone vigilante to death in Niger

A scuffle between local vigilantes attached to Bosso local government and youths has led to the death of one of the vigilantes.

The vigilante, whose name is unknown, died when a stray stone thrown by the youths hit him on his head.

The misunderstanding began when the vigilantes went to the former Bosso market to force traders to move to a new location built by the chairman of Bosso local government area.

The Nation learnt the chairman, Abubakar Suleiman Gwamna, has directed the vigilantes to send the traders selling at the old market away because it was not designated as a market anymore.

The chairman said that the traders should go to the new market which is located at the western bypass close to Lawu estate.

When the vigilantes began packing the foodstuff and other items of the traders, the youths resisted, it was gathered.

The resistance led to the youths throwing stones, one of which hit the vigilante who died immediately at the spot.

The youths and traders scampered for safety when they realised he was dead to prevent arrest.
