Taraba condemns killing of three policemen, lady

The Taraba State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning Solomon Elisha has condemned the killing of three policemen and a lady in a fresh crisis in the Kurmi Local Government Area.

The act was committed when a crisis erupted between Ichen and Ndaka tribes in Kurmi Local Government Area.

In a chat with reporters in Jalingo, the state capital, yesterday, Elisha said it was sad that brothers chose to take arms against themselves.

He noted that instead of facing the economic crisis that crippled the activities of the two communities, people chose to fight over issues that had not any economic benefit.

According to him, it is wrong for brothers to have chosen not to co-exist peacefully.

“When this issue began, the state government was on top of the situation and stakeholders had engaged the various groups in dialogue.

“I am an Ichen man from Kurmi; I have spoken to my people to lay down their arms and resolve whatsoever is the issue.

“During his visit to Kurmi, Governor Darius Ishaku spoke to the two feuding parties, during which they agreed to co-exist and to live in peace,” he said.

The commissioner, who is a stakeholder from Kurmi Local Government Area, commended the governor for setting up a commission of enquiry to wade into the crisis with the view to bringing an end to the conflict.

NAN reports that the Taraba Command of the Nigeria Police had earlier confirmed the killing of three policemen and a woman in the crisis between Ichen and Ndaka tribes.
