Sagir Attahiru Bafarawa son of former governor Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa on Thursday unveiled his ambition to contest Sokoto State governorship seat on the platform of the ruling PDP in the state.
Sagir, a young politician was the state Commissioner for Environment before his resignation two weeks ago to pursue the party’s ticket alongside others for the governorship seat come 2023.
According to Sagir, whose father governed Sokoto State between 1999 and 2007, the move was informed by calls by supporters and like minded citizens, especially youths who believed he was capable as a loyal and responsive member of the party.
“My declaration followed a call by supporters and I needed to consult with the leadership before accepting to join the race.
“Party is the supreme in politics and such necessitated my meeting with the leaders to receive their blessings.
“However, the leaders of the party have endorsed my aspiration, which I want to assure the people that, if by God’s grace I succeed, I will continue from where Gov. Aminu Tambuwal stopped.
“As a commissioner in the present administration, I have learned a lot from the leadership of Gov. Tambuwal.
“Therefore, I will continue in that direction if eventually elected governor of Sokoto state,” he said.
Bafarawa further pledged to ensure proper administration that will involve all the people of the state for more people’s engagement.
In his response, Alhaji Bello Goronyo, State chairman of the party, acknowledged Bafarawa for being the first aspirant to consult the party leadership in the state.
“This is a great honour and good development to the party. As such, we have blessed your aspiration and we give you the mandate to declare your intention,” he said.
