Vice Chancellor Federal University Lokoja (FULOKOJA), Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi has sought the support of stakeholders in the institution to take it to enviable heights.
He spoke last week during the visit of former General Secretary of the Nigerian Students Society, University of Leeds, United Kingdom, Mr. Oluwaloseyi Babaeko.
Akinwumi noted that the school had numerous challenges, needing serious interventions to make it world class.
He said: “The university is faced with numerous challenges, such as inability to accommodate students in hostels at the Felele Campus for security reasons; fencing of the university is a concern which needs rapid attention; the medical facilities for the School of Medicine need to be upgraded; the Law programme is yet to commence; to mention just a few of the challenges facing the Ivory tower.”
Babaeko called on the Visitor to the university, President Muhammadu Buhari to increase its budgetary allocation for rapid development.
He also appealed to the Federal Government to dialogue with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) for students to go back to school.
Babaeko urged the VC to introduce Transport Studies and partner Dangote Cement Factory in Obajana for training and retraining of their drivers for efficient service delivery.
“I urge the Vice Chancellor to put up a course in Transport Studies with a total commitment to partner with Alhaji Aliko Dangote Cement factory in Obajana for the training and retraining of the company’s drivers for an efficient service,” he said.
The former General Secretary of the Nigerian Students Society called on the public and private sectors to give their maximum support for the progress and development of the school.
Babaeko praised the VC for his visionary leadership and steadying the ship of the institution.
