Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Izzi clan in Ebonyi State on Saturday called on the National Chairman of the party, Senator Abdulahi Adamu to save the party in the state from collapse ahead of next year’s general election.
The stakeholders alleged that there was a concluded plan to impose one of governorship aspirants and current Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Francis Nwifuru on the people and vowed that they would not tolerate it.
They said the plan which is being carried out under a tacit approval of Ebonyi State government if allowed to scale through would spell disaster for the party in the 2023.
The Izzi are one of the largest clans in Abakaliki bloc where the governorship has been zoned to.
Geographically, they are predominantly found in Abakaliki, Ebonyi and Izzi local government areas of the state.
The stakeholders who included a former Ambassador, Chief Alex Nwofe, Chief Michael Udenwe, Chief Nick Ochigbo, Uchenna Nshi, Godwin Nwamkpuma and many others, described the plot as undemocratic.
They opined that the state government had tacitly endorsed Nwifuru who is from the clan by mandating the traditional rulers in Izzi, three House of Assembly members in the clan, the three council chairmen from the clan and all the political appointee from the area to endorse the aspirant.
They condemned the actions of the appointees who aired their endorsement on the state broadcast station, EBBC even when a meeting on who will fly APC ticket from Izzi clan has not been concluded.
They noted that despite calls on the state government and leadership of the party to intervene nothing has been done to call those pushing for Nwifuru’s endorsement to order.
