Governors Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State and Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State have felicitated with Christians in their respective states and Nigeria in general to commemorate this year’s Easter celebration.

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya urged Christians in Gombe State and Nigeria as a whole to pray for continued peace and stability of the state and the country.

In a goodwill message, Gov. Yahaya said the Easter period provides an opportunity for strengthening of unity of purpose, reinforcement of bond of brotherhood and dedication in service to God and humanity as exemplified by Jesus Christ.

He said: “Easter symbolises love, sacrifice, service to God and country as well as triumph of good over evil. We should always reflect on the lessons and significance of the season and demonstrate the same in our lives.

“On this occasion of Easter feast, I want to enjoin our Christian brothers and sisters in Gombe State and the world over to continue to demonstrate love, promote peace and show good neighbourliness.”

The governor equally urged all Christians “to continue to pray fervently against the socio-economic and security challenges in the country.”

Greeting Christians in Adamawa State, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, in a statement sent to newsmen by his Press secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, said that Easter “symbolises God’s redemptive mission over humanity, the triumph of light over darkness, hope over despair and good over evil,” and called on residents of Adamawa State to use the opportunity that Easter provides to show love to one another and make sacrifices for the overall good of the society.

“As we celebrate the Easter in sober recollection of Christ’s crucifixion, let us think about how we can each help to steer our state and nation back on the road to peace, by working in the spirit of oneness.”

Regretting that many would not be able to celebrate Easter with their families because they cannot travel home as the nation is currently gripped with gloom over unfortunate killings, kidnappings and violence, the governor called for unity and resilience among Nigerians.

He said, “The harsh conditions of living today are a tough test for the country, but like the previous tests, we will pull through. We have been tested many times before and we have always done what is necessary to pull through all difficulty and adversity, we have always found inspiration in ourselves and each other to find the sunshine after the storm.”
